Seed Science Research: Special Issue on Seed Ecology

Message from the Editor-in-Chief of Seed Science Research

Dear registrants of Seed Ecology V

With this message I cordially invite you to submit your work to Seed Science Research. We aim to pull together a Special Issue devoted to Seed Ecology in the broadest sense. You may be aware of the fact that SSR has become a major outlet for Seed Ecology. The reason why you may consider submitting a contribution is that we have published, over the years, many fine contributions in this field, thanks to rigorous but very helpful evaluations from our expert Editors and Reviewers. Moreover, articles in Special Issues are usually very well cited.

The coordination of this endeavour is in the able hands of our Guest-Editor, Carol Baskin, whom, I presume, you all know as one of the leaders in our discipline. She will be assisted by our two Associate-Editors for seed ecology, Costas Thanos and Mark Ooi.

Your contribution may be related to all topics within the seed ecology field and may be in the format of a Research Article, (mini) Review, Short Communication, Technical Update or Opinion Paper. Since we’d like to associate this Special Issue with the Seed Ecology V meeting in Brazil this August the deadline for submission is set at November 1. We will do everything possible to make the turnaround time for manuscripts as short as possible.

Looking forward to your contribution!

Kind regards

Henk Hilhorst (and on behalf of Carol Baskin)

Editor-in-Chief Seed Science Research

International network for seed-based restoration

The International Network for Seed-based Restoration (INSR) formed in December 2015 and is a special thematic section of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER). INSR connects people who work with native seeds and restoration in an exchange of knowledge and information with the goal of improving restoration and conservation outcomes.  If you have an interest in native seed we invite you to participate: practitioners, researchers, growers, seed businesses, students, conservationists, policy-makers, seed analysts… The network is based online at www.ser-insr.org where you can find news, learn about upcoming meetings or training events and post on the reddit forum https://www.reddit.com/r/NativeSeed. In addition a global symposium dedicated to native seeds and restoration is planned for 2017 in Brazil.

In this first year of activity, the Board has been working to raise awareness about the network and build the membership base.  We especially want to encourage and welcome members from Africa, Asia and Latin America to participate and share their experiences. In order to include and reach audiences around the world, we seek contributions (webinars, resources, announcements) in languages other than English. Please get in touch if you would like to represent your region or language in INSR.

Become an INSR Member to connect with other professionals and to receive periodic email announcements.  Membership is free and just a click away once you become an SER member.  http://ser-insr.org/take-action/

Organizations who would like to have an affiliation with INSR can join as Partners, also at no cost.

Companies or industry who would like to make a financial contribution to support the mission of INSR can join as Sponsors.  Contact Stephanie Frischie info@ser-insr.org for more details.

Access to the website and forum does not require membership and is free.
